College & Major & Graduating Year: Wiess, Bioengineering, 2014
Why did you become a Director?  As a committee chair last year, I felt the SA accomplished plenty, but had trouble communicating its achievements and connecting with the rest of the student body. This has developed into a desire to see the SA become the integral part of Rice culture that it should have always been.
What is your goal for the year?  I want to increase college-wide awareness
and support of the SA, especially working to reduce redundancy with
college governments, spread knowledge of SA committees and their accomplishments, and explore unique venues to market SA initiatives, electronic and by word-of-mouth.
Favorite Food: Milkshakes
Favorite Rice Activity: Beeeeeerrrr Bikkkkeee!

Why did you become a Director?
I have a new passion: to give back to Rice. This was the most creative and impactful way for me to get involved and to put my computer science knowledge to work. Helping a society as prominent as the SA to make a bigger and better impact on the culture and life around Rice would be very fulfilling.
What is your goal for the year?
To have a cool, dynamic website that is enriched with the SA character. I also would like to help people within the SA make a difference.

Why did you become a Director?
I truly enjoy working with media, especially photography.
What is your goal for the year?
I hope to play a critical role in the SA's portion of the Centennial Celebration, improve and publicize the Rice in a Box program, and of course photographically document and display the SA's many accomplishments, meetings, and guest speakers from week-to-week.
Favorite Food: Ice cream! I like all kinds, but my favorite flavors have been avocado, coconut, ube, ginger, and malunggay!

Favorite Rice Activity: I really enjoy when Rice offers cool partner dance lessons that are open to the general public. Two-step, salsa, swing...I love them all and it's one of my favorite ways of meeting people around campus.

What is your goal for the year?
I’ll keep good track of what’s going on in SA, both major events and student activities, along with both positive and negative comments, in order to make a record of these events and to evaluate their effectiveness. I’ll also make the record innovative and attractive, so that I can better show others the awesomeness of Student Association.

Parliamentarian

Name:  Brian Baran
Email: bbaran@
College & Major & Graduating Year:  Duncan 2015; Philosophy, Sociology, Business minor
Why did you become a Director?  The SA has recently faced significant procedural struggles, many of which result in large part from our complex and often-confusing governing documents. I wanted to serve as Parliamentarian to help the SA follow good procedure and fix bad procedure.
What is your goal for the year?  My primary goal for the year is to reform the constitution and bylaws to eliminate contradictions, increase clarity and organization, and improve upon ineffective or overly cumbersome procedures.
