Student Senate Minutes

March 24, 2008- 10:00 PM

Farnsworth Pavilion

The weekly meeting of the Student Association was called to order on Monday, March 24, 2008 at 10:06 PM in Farnsworth Pavilion in the Rice Memorial Center. Laura Kelley, President, presided and Cristina Garcia-Abedrabbo, Secretary, was present.

The minutes from the March 17 meeting were approved.

Matt Youn, IVP, announced the University Committee applications are due Wednesday, April 2 at 5:00 PM in the Student Association office. Applications for next year’s Commencement Speaker Committee are due Thursday, April 3. Application forms and more information are available at http://sa.rice.edu.

Andrew Bowen, Director of Elections, announced the following results of the Spring Election: Kathy Zhang, RSVP Chair; Grace Chang, RSVP Secretary; John Michael Cuccia, Campanile Editor-in-Chief; Adnan Poonwala, Austin Edwards, and Michael Nelson, Honor Council At-Large Representatives. The University Blue Editor-in-Chief will be appointed at the beginning of next semester. Vote breakdown for each position is available at http://sa.rice.edu/sa-poll/2008-sa-spring-elections.

The proposed by-law “To Create the Committee on Constitutional Revisions” was approved.

The Senate reviewed the accomplishments of the 2007-2008 Student Association. ... Kelley said she felt the greatest accomplishments of the SA this year were the online polls, establishing communication with the Faculty Senate, and improving the reputation of the Student Association in both the student body and the Administration.

She also thanked all those actively involved with the SA for a great year. The meeting and the 2007-2008 Student Association adjourned at 10:36 PM.
