The steering committee seeks the addition of an undergraduate student member with knowledge of and/or experience with the current African and African American Studies offerings across the university; a vision for the future of African and African American Studies at Rice; and someone dedicated to growing and nourishing connections between the academy and larger black communities beyond the university.
Student input and energy has been fundamental to the discipline of African and African American Studies since its inception. Here at Rice, the faculty now comprising the center recognize and appreciate the student interest and labor that over the years has helped lead to the launching of this present endeavor. In the months to come, there will be additional ways in which the center will continue to take into account student ideas about the nature, direction, and growth of the center.
