Jae Kim (President)
Hey Rice! My name is Jae Kim, and I'm a junior studying Environmental Science. I am running to be your next Student Association President!
I am currently serving as the Brown College President, and have experience as a College Senator and SA Environmental Committee Chair. Across my positions, I've provided $2000 to the SSI pantry, organized a Sustainability Career Crawl with the CCD, created affinity groups at Brown, and so much more. These projects have taught me invaluable lessons: how to disagree with someone and laugh about it together afterward, how to encourage and console friends and strangers, and how to commit to service and build a community.
My platform consists of three pillars: DEI, thoughtful university growth, and sustainability. For example, I hope to increase support for cultural clubs and Pride, work towards housing equity across colleges, and take measurable steps for emissions reduction. These initiatives are not just ideas; they are extensions of projects I have been pursuing for years.
Three years in the Student Association have taught me its strengths, its shortcomings, and what it could be. The SA is most powerful when working as a vessel to amplify students’ voices. As President, I will revitalize the organization to more effectively address student concerns.
With your vote, it will be my honor and privilege to lead with integrity, serve with compassion, and strengthen the bonds of community that transform Rice from a campus into something more like home.
