Candidate Statement

Chelsea Asibbey (President)

Hello, Rice community! I'm Chelsea Asibbey, a junior at Baker majoring in political science and sport management, and I am excited to run to be your Student Association President for the 2026-2027.

In my two years in the Student Association, I have experienced the joys of seeing legislation pass and the tension as student representatives wrestle with tough topics. Through it all, my love for this campus has only grown stronger, and my desire to be a leader who leaves Rice better than I found it is now what motivates me to run for Student Association president. If elected, the three goals that will guide my term are affordability, accessibility, and action.

Affordability continues to be one of the most important issues on a Rice student's mind. In the position of SA president, I will make it my priority to support initiatives that make mandatory materials like printing and Cengage more affordable.

Rice has always gone the extra mile to become accessible, and that accessibility should extend to resources such as food accessibility and mental health resources throughout the year. It is my goal to make things more accessible and amplify spaces already available to students.

Lastly, as Rice begins to grow, it is important to take action to maintain integral parts of the Rice culture, like Beer Bike and athletics

I am honored to be running for this pivotal role. I look forward to serving you as your Student Association president and leaving the Student Association better than I found it.
