Sexual Violence & Harassment Policy Commission

Mission Statement:

The Sexual Violence and Harassment Policy Commission is dedicated to fostering a safe and respectful environment at Rice University. By collaborating with the Rice University Student Association, Students Transforming Rice Into a Violence-Free Environment (STRIVE), and Rice University’s Office of Sexual Violence Prevention and Title IX Support, we aim to lead impactful initiatives that address and prevent sexual assault and harassment. Our focus is on empowering the student body through education, advocacy, and access to comprehensive support services, ensuring that every member of our community feels heard, supported, and protected.

Proposed Initiatives:

This year the commission will be tackling two major projects this year with various smaller projects proposed by the commission members. Our primary focus will be:

  • Bringing back Students Transforming Rice Into a Violence-free Environment (STRIVE), and 

  • Organizing a week of events in April in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.

Zoey Garcia-Rigole

Hi everyone! My name is Zoey, and I am a sophomore at Brown College, studying Mathematics and Psychology on the Pre-Law Track. On campus, I am a member of the Mock Trial team and Rice Women in STEM. I’m excited to be serving as the Chair for the Sexual Violence and Harassment Policy Commission this year! In this role, my goal is to reduce sexual assault and harassment across campus through effective policies, and to help make Rice University a place where the student body feels safe.

Hi everyone! My name is Sarah Ouardaoui, I'm a sophomore from Duncan studying cognitive science. I'm also the Vice Chair of the Sexual Violence and Harassment Policy Commission where I get to team up with the Student Association and other awesome campus groups to lead initiatives that make our campus safer and more supportive. Whether it's brainstorming fresh ideas or collaborating on empowering events, I’m all about creating a positive impact and ensuring everyone at Rice feels safe and heard!
