Da’Taeveyon Daniels

(Honor Council Sophomore Rep)

Serving on the Honor Council, more than anything, is about patience and discernment. Having the ability to treat folks with respect, no matter their circumstances, balance application of the Honor Code, and constantly seek to improve an ever-imperfect system. Over the course of the Fall Semester, I’ve served on over twenty official Honor Council proceedings, with those very tenets in mind.

In my short time, I’ve come to find flaws and intricacies in the system meant to hold us all, to give us all a sense of shared trust and responsibility. If elected to serve as Honor Council Sophomore Class Rep, I’ll continue working to make this system better, case by case, with people and transparency at the top of mind. My name is Da’Taeveyon Daniels, and more than anything else, I’m an organizer. I’ve worked with people affected by systems and know how hard it can be to face an unknown system of authority. I’ve been in spaces and places, always with a single goal: making others' lives better. This has been and remains my guiding principle ever since stepping on Rice’s campus. After hearing the stories of students unfairly impacted by the Honor System, I sought to show up in this space to understand, strategize, and ultimately make change, making the system more equitable and fair for all.
