Candidate Statement
Chloe Diehl (KTRU Station Manager)
Before I even stepped foot on Rice’s campus, I already knew about KTRU and dreamed of being part of it in some way. I was vibing to KTRU back when it was 91.7, riding in the back of my mom’s 2005 Honda Accord on the way to school. Long before I became a Rice student, KTRU had already become part of my life.
KTRU has been more than just a radio station to me. It is my safe space, a place where I have challenged my music taste, discovered new artists, and met some of my biggest role models on campus. Through KTRU, I have engaged with Rice in a way that is both deeply creative and deeply personal. As station manager, I want to give back to the community that has given me so much.
My first year as station manager has taught me what it truly means to be a leader. From rebuilding relationships with our community DJs to working alongside directors to plan on-campus concerts, I have strengthened my connection to KTRU while growing in confidence, responsibility, and purpose.
Yet, my work is far from finished. I am currently organizing cross-club collaborative fundraisers, building partnerships with established college radio stations across Texas, and expanding our outreach. At the same time, I remain deeply committed to preserving KTRU’s unique character. I will continue to advocate for our long-standing traditions and protect the welcoming, inclusive atmosphere that has made KTRU feel like home since my first days at Rice.
