Candidate Statement

Robert Fischer (Secretary)

Hi! My name is Robert Fischer, and I’m running for Rice Student Association Secretary.

Over the past year, I’ve had the chance to serve Rice students through student government as a New Student Representative and by working closely with SA leadership, college cabinets, and administrators. That experience showed me that the Secretary role isn’t just about taking notes, it’s about making sure student government actually works the way it’s supposed to: transparent, organized, and accessible to students. As Secretary, my top priority would be clarity. That means clear meeting agendas, accurate and timely minutes, and records that students can easily find and understand. Too often, important decisions happen behind walls of jargon or buried documents. I want students to know what SA is working on, why decisions are being made, and how they can get involved.

I also care deeply about follow-through. I’ve seen firsthand how good ideas lose momentum when communication breaks down. As Secretary, I would focus on improving internal coordination between committees, college representatives, and the Executive Board so that initiatives move forward efficiently and nothing slips through the cracks. At the end of the day, I’m running because I believe student government should be practical, transparent, and responsive. The Secretary plays a key role in setting that standard, and I’m excited about the opportunity to serve Rice students in that capacity.

I’d be honored to earn your vote.
