Candidate Statement
Rohan Dharia (EVP)
Hey, I’m Rohan, and I’m running for External Vice President of the Student Association! The SA has historically struggled to address the issues affecting you, the Rice students. For two years, I’ve worked in the SA—most recently as McMurtry Senator—to change that and start initiatives that actually improve student life.
In the past, I’ve worked on:
Late-Night Dining: I served on the Senate advisory team that pushed for H&D to implement the 9-11 PM late-night dining option and keep its meal swipe donation program active
International Night: With DEI commission, I led Rice’s first-ever global cultural showcase, which helped celebrate our multiculturalism through a free event with cultural food and performances
As EVP, I want to continue pursuing initiatives students really care about, such as:
24-Hour College Snack Pantries: I’ve already secured funding and am now looking to implement snack pantries at each college that would provide students with free, accessible snacks when the serveries are closed
After-Hours Academic Building Access: I’m working with administration to give all students swipe access to academic buildings after they close, so you always have somewhere to study that isn’t just Fondy
SA transparency shouldn’t have to be forced. You should notice your SA not because they tell you what they’re doing, but because you see their actions actively improve your life. Most students want similar things—24-hour Fondy, better food options, unrestricted traditions and publics. As your EVP, I’m here to keep finding those problems that matter to everyone and push for change.
