Candidate Statement
Da’Taeveyon Daniels (EVP)
My name is Da’Taeveyon Daniels, and I’m running to be your next External Vice President. More than anything else, I’m an organizer. I’ve mobilized tens of thousands of people and helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for initiatives across the country, but now I’m here, and my priority is the Rice community.
I’m running for EVP because too many students feel disconnected from the Student Association. Not because they don’t care, but because access to initiative, resources, and decision-making is not equitable or inclusive.
‘Initiative for All’ is my response to that failure. As an FGLI student, this work means the world to me. Making the Initiative Fund more accessible, more equitable, and more transparent, so that taking initiative is not reserved for those who already understand institutional processes. It means intentionally bringing more students into the fold, because the Student Association does not exist for a select few; it serves all students, and any initiative should reflect that truth.
I’m running to help build a Student Association where initiative is not gatekept, engagement is not accidental, and every student, no matter their background, can see themselves reflected in the work we do. If the Student Association truly serves all students, then every initiative must be an initiative for all.
