Candidate Statement

Ananya A Nair (IVP)

“Actions speak louder than any words when accompanied with kindness, integrity and hard-work”

Greetings My Dear Rice friends,

I am Ananya A Nair and the above caption embodies my beliefs, values and what I hope to bring to the SA as a member of the Executive Committee.

Let me begin by thanking my friends who kindly nominated me. I would also like to thank Natalie for patiently answering all my questions regarding the election process.

I am humbled to be nominated and to get the amazing opportunity to run for a position in the SA Executive Committee.

Now a little bit about me...

I am a fearless dreamer who follows her heart, dreams and believes in making a positive difference through compassion, empathy, respect and honesty.

As an upcoming professional Bharatanatyam dancer (Indian Classical Dance) I have learned that to get things done it is the actions you take in the nick of time that count more than any words.

Being a passionate dancer, I have learned to expect the unexpected, find resolutions swiftly, and to work towards a goal step by step with fearless dedication and perseverance.

The artist in me will bring fresh perspectives to the SA that will represent our student body in an innovative way.

I am honored to be the Parliamentarian and First Year Representative (FYR) at McMurtry college. This has helped me to actively engage with the student body to introduce new initiatives such as Compassion 2024 (a fundraiser that brought together diverse Rice artists to showcase their artform to help victims of hurricane Helene and Milton). Along the way I have also learned how the McMurtry student government works and currently administering the 2025 McMurtry elections has been an enlightening and enriching experience.

If elected as a member of the Executive Committee I will strive to increase transparency between the SA and Rice students. I would like all Rice students to have easier access to be part of SA initiatives, understand how the SA works, and to have a good overview of what their Rice student government is working towards.

I would like to nurture initiatives that give back to our community locally and globally. Charity needs to be a significant part of our student government because through giving back we are able to create a more uplifting and inclusive culture in our university. As members of the SA we should seek out these clubs and initiatives to help them to grow.

Today many of you might not know me but if elected I pledge to be your friend in need who listens and cares.

Rice Owls united together we can make our home that is Rice University a safe, happy and enriching place for all.

I am running on respect, kindness, transparency and I will be your fearless IVP who values integrity.

I hope you will trust me enough to give me your valuable vote.

It will be an honor and privilege to serve as your IVP and be part of the SA Executive Committee of Rice University.

Once again thank you for patiently and kindly reading my statement.

Wishing all the candidates taking part in this election good luck.

Thank you 🙏

Sincerely-

Ananya A Nair
